Holdenby House

King Charles inherited Holdenby as a palace from his Father King James.

Later after his defeat in the English Civil War, Charles was held here for 5 months during 1647, until Cromwell sent Cornet Joyce with 500 soldiers to remove him.

Holdenby House is a dream for a History Lover. A rich story of many tales and the grounds are a joy to discover. You can imagine King Charles walking the grounds. Of which he paced and usually out paced others.
Holdenby also has a fantastic Falconry.
'Icarus Falconry' A friendly welcome awaits and a beautiful collection of Birds of Prey, informative displays for learning about it's history too.
